Crinum moorei

Crinum moorei rubra
Unlike most other Crinum, C. moorei does best in shade in Texas. Morning sun, dappled sun, or full bright shade do not inhibit flowering. In fact, in Texas, the foliage is more lush and the flowers last longer in when the plants are grown in bright shade. Rachel Saunders (Silverhill Seeds) reports that C. moorei comes from Kwa Zulu Natal where it grows in forested areas.
C. moorei rubra has dark-pink flowers, whereas C. moorei is described as white- or pink-flowering and not dark-pink. Therefore, “moorei rubra” may be a garden hybrid of C. moorei. Irrespective of its true identity, C. moorei rubra is a beautiful plant that was employed in several crosses by Marcelle Sheppard, but some consider it to be a C. moorei-like garden hybrid and not a plant representative of the species.
