C. hildebrandtii is a nearly aquatic species from the tropical Comores Islands, northwest of the great island of Madagascar.  It is not an especially large plant and has somewhat rigid leaves that are usually about 2 feet long.  It will grow and flower outdoors in typical (but well watered) flowerbed conditions (such as for roses or tropical Hibiscus) in Vidor and Beaumont, Texas, and it is hardy in such locations.
