Crinum Cape Dawn

Crinum Cape Dawn
Crinum 'Cape Dawn'

Cape Dawn is was created in 1961 by Mr. Hannibal.  It is a large plant with a tall scape (about 5-ft-tall) that holds large flowers.  The fully open floral umbel can be 18-20 inches across and the color is breathtaking, a coral-red or scarlet-pink.  Each sturdy scape can hold 12 or more flowers.  A mature plant, well settled in, will send up 4-7 scapes, one after the other, from May till frost.

This astonishingly beautiful hybrid is purported to be a hybrid of C. bulbispermum and C. x burbankii.  C. x burbankii is described as cross between C. macowanii and C. yemense.
